Yogurt Maker Reviews

Before you go out and make your purchase, it is important to take a look at several different yogurt maker reviews. Getting an idea for what qualities people like and dislike will not only give you a better idea of the features you would like to have, but will also let you know which models are better than the others.

Here, we will look at four different brands of electric yogurt makers and list the pros and cons of them according to people who have actually purchased them and used them.  What is important to one person, may not be important to another, so this is a great way to get a general idea about each model.

Deni Yogurt Maker

This is a nice little starter unit. Don’t expect too much out of it, but for the very reasonable price range it fits into, it is a good value. The construction quality seems good for the price and it functions like it’s supposed to. You can’t ask for much more than that for an entry level priced yogurt maker.

Pros:

  • Audible buzzer when timer is complete
  • Glass jars with plastic lids
  • Automatic shut off timer

Cons:

  • Alarm is extremely loud

Total Chef Yogurt Maker

All yogurt makers are not created equal, and this unit really falls toward the low end of the spectrum. The construction materials are of poor quality and the machine gives inconsistent results. It did not meat the threshold of getting my endorsement.

While it may be inexpensive, that doesn’t mean it should be low quality. Unfortunately, the machine I tested was just that. It has a few positive points about it, but I can’t recommend you buy it. There are better machines available in the same general price range. If the manufacturer improves the product, I will gladly update this review.

Pros:

  • Compact size doesn’t take up a lot of space on the kitchen counter
  • Simple to use – just one button to push
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Plastic lid tends to crack easily
  • Plastic jars are kind of flimsy
  • Cannot be used to make back-to-back batches, needs to cool between cycles
  • Condensation can create pools of water under the appliance
  • No automatic shut off or timer

Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker

This is a nice mid-range priced yogurt maker. I found it really simple to operate, and it made good yogurt every time I tried it. While it isn’t a high end machine, and probably would disappoint the experienced yogurt maker or connoisseur,  this is a great little unit that I have no problem recommending for someone new to making yogurt at home, or the casual user.

Pros:

  • Glass jars are high quality
  • Automatic shut-off
  • Simple to use

Cons:

  • Jars can be difficult to clean due to the way they are assembled.  A seam in the bottom of the glass catches yogurt.
  • Does not come with a thermometer

Waring Pro YM350 Professional Yogurt Maker

This is the real deal. If you are a serious home yogurt maker, or you just want a good, quality machine, you should seriously consider this unit. All the plastic parts are dishwasher safe, so cleanup is easy. As you become more proficient with your yogurt making, you will want to experiment with your recipes and processing times. The built-in digital timer is something you will come to love.

This yogurt maker is a little bit on the pricey side, but you really do get what you pay for. In this machine you will find a unit that will satisfy the picky chef while making the total novice feel right at home. In fact, the only real negative thing I could say about the machine is that it goes in and out of stock frequently, which is kind of a pain. If you decide you want to try one out, and they are available, you should probably jump on it. I’m just sayin’…

Pros:

  • Comes with two different sized plastic jars
  • Automatically turns off when the cycle is done
  • Replacement jars are readily available

Cons:

  • Comes with plastic jars instead of glass
  • 7 jars can fit into the maker, but it only comes with 6
